Mainstreaming and institutionalizing the gender perspective and peaceful coexistence with a restorative approach, human rights, intersectionality, and masculinities.

The lack of gender mainstreaming in educational institutions has hindered progress toward non-sexist, inclusive, violence-free education that fosters peaceful coexistence. This happens because:

 

  • The actions are isolated.

  • They lack coordination.

  • They are not properly planned.

  • They do not have clear and specific objectives.

  • They do not have indicators for monitoring and evaluation.

  • They do not address the root cause: gender inequalities.

 

Thus, to achieve significant changes in this area, it is essential that the gender and coexistence approach be integrated vertically and horizontally throughout the entire teaching-learning process, thus addressing the root causes that generate violence and discrimination.

What is DIGEI?

The Distinction that Generates Equality (DIGEI) symbolizes recognition of the commitment and willingness of HEIs to comply with Mexican legislation that promotes gender mainstreaming and better coexistence.

 

The DIGEI is a "roadmap" for HEIs, on a voluntary and internal basis, to incorporate the gender perspective into their processes and policies.

 

The DIGEI incorporates the creation of a integrated peaceful coexistence policy, which generates measurable impacts and helps reduce gender-based violence, and discrimination.

 

The DIGEI offers support for the mainstreaming and institutionalization of gender and coexistence, and allows us to access a digital platform and conduct self-assessment through this way.

 

The DIGEI represents the model for generating transformations that foster healthy coexistence, solidarity, peace, and respect for diversity.

What objectives does DIGEI pursue?

Co-create a Comprehensive Policy on Equality and University Peaceful Coexistence that achieves:

 

  • Measurable impacts on the quality of school peaceful coexistence.

  • Significantly reduce bullying, gender-based violence, discrimination, and sexist education.

  • Identify and reduce gender inequality gaps.

  • Mainstream and institutionalize human rights, gender perspectives, masculinities, intersectionality, and restorative justice approaches in conflict management and university peaceful coexistence.

  • Contribute to a transformative education that fosters solidarity, respect, and peace.

Self-diagnosis

Self-diagnosis becomes an essential tool for identifying strengths and weaknesses in matters of interest.

A self-assessment involves collecting and analyzing information on various aspects: gender gaps, leadership opportunities, gender-based violence prevention and care, shared responsibility for care, salaries, and organizational culture.

With this analysis, it is possible to determine whether there are discriminatory practices or biases within the institution that perpetuate inequality.

Why DIGEI?

  • It is based on extensive research and supported by similar certifications such as the UNDP and University of Chile Gender Equality Seal.

  • It was developed with technical assistance from ECLAC and the Gender Unit of the University of Chile. Various expert civil society organizations contributed to this process.

  • It is an orderly, comprehensive, and coordinated critical path to guide the mainstreaming and institutionalization of the gender perspective.

  • It complies with current Mexican legislation and is aligned with the SDGs.

  • It incorporates integrated coexistence management systems and a survey on the situation and actions to promote equality.

  • It offers a digital platform for self-diagnosis, which allows you to systematize information and download a results report, which will help you design an organized action plan with clear goals and concrete actions.

Network Equality and Peaceful Coexistence

To promote this initiative, an academic network has been created with partner civil society organizations and experts in the field. This group of talents will be able to offer the highest quality and most effective support to HEIs that require it, ensuring that each project is tailored to the specific needs of each institution.

Furthermore, an ongoing exchange of knowledge and practices among the expert organizations involved will be fostered, which will enrich this initiative. The network is committed to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue, where all voices are heard and respected. In this way, we will build a future where education is a powerful instrument for positive social change.
